MANHATTAN, N.Y. - Jan. 4, 2019 - PRLog -- DKBmed, LLC, in collaboration with the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine (JHUSOM), has announced the launch of the second volume of eMultipleSclerosis Review, part of the popular eLiterature Review series that curates and summarizes medical literature and explains how the information applies to clinical practice. eMultipleSclerosis Review Volume 2 has been redesigned with a new, user-friendly interface. This new design: • Is intuitive and easy to navigate • Improves comprehension and increases retention of key information • Provides immediate feedback In persons with multiple sclerosis (MS), comorbidities have significant implications in diagnosis, clinical presentation and course, quality of life, and treatment. Pre-existing comorbidities can increase the diagnostic delay from symptom onset by up to 10 years. But clinicians lack knowledge about which comorbidities are most common and how they affect treatment decisions, treatment responses, and health outcomes. Of surveyed clinicians, only 25% consider themselves "very knowledgeable" about the burden of comorbidities among their patients with MS (DKBmed, Data on file). Volume 2 of eMultipleSclerosis Review was created to close this knowledge gap and others, with the ultimate goal of improving patient outcomes. More information is available at https://emultiplesclerosisreview.org . "Comorbidities add complexity to the diagnosis and management of MS, a disease that is already hampered by difficulty in accurate, timely diagnosis," explains Daniel Ontaneda, MD, staff neurologist at the Cleveland Clinic and an eMultipleSclerosis Review author. "Addressing these comorbidities may improve MS-related and other health-related outcomes, so it's important that clinicians be aware of them." eMultipleSclerosis Review comprises three newsletters, which contain expert commentary and reviews, and three paired podcasts, which use case-based scenarios to apply the information to clinical practice. Specific topics covered in Volume 2 of eMultipleSclerosis Review include: • Screening to diagnose MS, monitor disease activity, and manage relapses • Treating MS and its related comorbidities • The impact of shared decision-making on adherence and patient quality of life • How current and new therapies individualize treatment in patients with relapsing as well as progressive MS "eMultipleSclerosis Review condenses the latest published data on the care of people with MS as well as emerging diagnostic, monitoring, and treatment options to help busy clinicians keep up to date while caring for their patients," said Dr. Ontaneda. The success of eMultipleSclerosis Review Over 1,000 clinicians have subscribed to eMultipleSclerosis Review. The podcasts have been downloaded over 500 times, and emails are opened, on average, 70% of the time. For Volume 1, there were 12,000 page views and 104 PDF downloads. As a result of completing Volume 1, 98% of participants indicated their practice confidence improved and 95% reported changing or intending to change their clinical practice. eMultipleSclerosis Review is one component of the highly successful and popular eLiterature Review series. Other topics covered in similar learning programs include cystic fibrosis, viral hepatitis, diabetes, HIV, and COPD/asthma.
